Virtual memory is nothing but just a part of computer’s internal
memory that is RAM. When RAM of your computer is full then computer needs some
more memory to store the data and it requires some additional memory and for
that virtual memory is needed. By using it speed of your computer increases.
Windows takes virtual memory when it doesn't have sufficient
“regular” personal memory to present a task. When it does this, Windows uses
your hard disk to store data that normally would be put into your RAM memory.
RAM is short for random access memory. Its major job is to process the
information inside your computer. For proper computer maintenance high amount of RAM is necessary and to increase it steps are describes below.
Steps
to increase the virtual memory size are as follows,
- Right click on the My Computer and select "Properties".
- Click on the "Advanced System Settings" located at left side.
- Or go through Control Panel --> System.
- In the Advanced tab of the System Properties locate the Performance group and click on the "Setting" to reach "Performance Option.
- In the performance option window click on the "Advanced" tab.
- In the Advanced tab of Performance Option locate the Virtual Memory group and click on "Change" to reach at the "Virtual Memory" Window.
- Uncheck the "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" check box to set virtual memory yourself.
- To set the virtual memory select the desired drive and see the recommended size and currently allocated size.
- Then select "Custom size" option.
By
following the above steps you can make your computer working fine and perform
multiple task at a time without having any computer problem like shutdown of
computer or freezing of computer.
